The Witcher 3, now 11 years old, is set to receive a remaster that will be available as a free upgrade.

The Witcher 3 is set for another major upgrade. A remastered edition is launching on September 29, featuring significant enhancements across the board, from graphics to horse riding mechanics. Best of all, it’s free for anyone who already owns the original game, and it will also be available on Switch 2.

Unveiled during Gamescom ONL 2026, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered arrives over 11 years after the original release, boasting upgraded visuals, improved combat, better movement and traversal, new visual effects for witcher signs, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a reworked skill tree, transmogrification, an expanded photo mode, new finishers, and much more.

The list of new features is extensive, including reworked looting systems, refined animations, improved quest tracking, updated foliage shading, and better menu navigation. The excitement is palpable!

This marks the third significant overhaul for the 2015 Game of the Year open-world RPG. The first came just a year after launch when the developers addressed bugs, UI issues, and gameplay feedback, transforming the game in subtle yet impactful ways. The second upgrade was the 2022 next-gen version for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, which also made its way to PC.

It’s pretty amazing that we’re getting an even better iteration of this all-time classic. Unlike some developers, the team behind it isn’t charging loyal fans for access to these enhancements. The remaster will be free for existing owners, and all current expansions will be included.

And let’s not forget, it’s also coming to Switch 2. The original Switch port, while commendable, had its share of visual issues. If the developers can replicate the success they had with Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo’s new hardware, Switch 2 players are in for a fantastic experience, especially if they missed out on the first version or are new to the game entirely.
