The Witcher 4 developers remain uncertain about fully redeeming Cyberpunk 2077.

While Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a significant turnaround in reputation since its troubled launch in 2020, CD Projekt Red’s CEO Michał Nowakowski believes the studio hasn’t fully completed its “redemption arc.”

In a recent interview, Nowakowski expressed optimism that future titles, including The Witcher 4, could help restore faith among players. “I’m not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc,” he stated. “I’m aware that we lost the trust of some players indefinitely, and that’s understandable. But I hope we can win it back – if not with The Witcher 4, then with whatever comes next.”

The initial release of Cyberpunk 2077 was met with disappointment due to numerous technical glitches and design flaws that made the game feel incomplete. Despite its strong narrative and gameplay foundation, many promised features were poorly executed, and players frequently encountered bugs. Given the studio’s success with The Witcher 3, the backlash from this launch was particularly intense.

In the years following, CD Projekt Red dedicated itself to improving Cyberpunk 2077, rolling out updates that enhanced stability across all platforms and reworking various gameplay systems. This effort culminated in the 2023 release of the Phantom Liberty expansion, which was met with critical acclaim.

Currently, CD Projekt Red is hard at work on multiple projects, including The Witcher 4 and a new Cyberpunk title. The positive buzz surrounding the next Witcher game indicates that many players feel the studio has made strides in regaining their trust. However, Nowakowski’s remarks suggest that he believes there’s still more to accomplish.

Looking ahead, Nowakowski shared his vision for the studio’s future, stating, “Our dream is to be making more games, although we never want to become a studio that launches a big game every year.”

At this time, The Witcher 4 does not have a confirmed release window.
