The Witcher 4 Is Set for a 2028 Release, But Won’t Be Showcased at Gamescom
CD Projekt RED has released a brief video ahead of Gamescom, discussing the future of The Witcher series. While the event will showcase the upcoming DLC, Songs of the Past, for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the highly anticipated Ciri-led Witcher 4 won’t be making an appearance. The team has confirmed that this new fantasy open-world RPG is aiming for a release window in 2028.
In a short video, joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski addressed fans, highlighting that Songs of the Past will take center stage at Gamescom this week. Attendees can check it out on the show floor in Cologne, and for those unable to attend, livestreams will be available from August 25 to 30, offering more insights. Nowakowski hinted at potential surprises during the live shows, but it seems The Witcher 4 won’t be part of that lineup. While an exact release date isn’t set, the game is currently targeting a 2028 launch. With Songs of the Past arriving next year, fans of the series won’t have to wait long for new content.
The Witcher 4 was first revealed at the Game Awards in 2024, marking a transition from the iconic Geralt of Rivia to his surrogate daughter, Ciri. Although Geralt was the main character in previous titles, Ciri was playable in certain segments of The Witcher 3. This time, she will be voiced by Ciara Berkeley, taking over from Jo Wyatt, who voiced her in The Witcher 3.
