The X-Files is making a comeback with Ryan Coogler at the helm.

Ryan Coogler, known for his work on Black Panther and Sinners, has been discussing a reboot of Chris Carter’s iconic sci-fi series, The X-Files, since 2023. Exciting developments emerged in early 2026 when Station Eleven stars Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel were announced as the leads. This was soon followed by the reveal of several notable guest stars, including Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, and Ben Foster. Now, the series has officially secured a spot on Hulu.

Coogler expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “What Chris Carter created is special, and we wanted to honor everything that made the original series connect with so many people while also finding our own way into that world. Danielle and Himesh, along with the rest of our cast, have brought such original perspectives and performances to these characters, and watching that come together has been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.”

In this new iteration, Deadwyler and Patel will portray two distinct FBI agents reminiscent of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. They develop an unexpected partnership after being assigned to The X-Files, a once-active division focused on cases involving the unexplained. Coogler has written and directed the pilot and will serve as executive producer alongside showrunner Jennifer Yale, known for her work on Dexter and Da Vinci’s Demons. The music for the pilot will be composed by Coogler’s frequent collaborator, Ludwig Göransson, who has won Oscars for his scores in Black Panther and Sinners.

While a release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, Coogler previously mentioned that the series is expected to debut before the next Black Panther film, set for release on December 15, 2028. If all goes as planned, fans can anticipate seeing Coogler’s The X-Files pilot in 2027 or early 2028.
