These wireless headphones set a new standard for lightweight design.

If you’re searching for lightweight wireless headphones but find traditional earbuds or clip-ons uncomfortable or insecure, a lesser-known Japanese brand might have just what you need. Final’s new Porta headphones boast an on-ear design supported by a headband, crafted from a single piece of wire, making them incredibly light at just 40 grams. For context, Marshall’s recently released Milton A.N.C. headphones are also compact on-ear models but weigh in at 200 grams.

The Final Porta headphones are currently available for preorder through the company’s online store for 12,800 yen (approximately $80), with options for black or orange ear pads. Shipping is expected to begin on October 23rd. While the company has an Amazon shop for customers in the US, the Porta headphones are not listed there yet.

The design of the Porta seems to draw inspiration from the lightweight headphones Sony used to include with its Walkmans decades ago, and their functionality is straightforward. They feature a 57mAh battery that charges via USB-C, offering up to eight hours of playback. The Porta connects wirelessly to devices using Bluetooth 5.4 and supports audio streaming over SBC and AAC codecs. While they lack active noise cancellation—a common trait for on-ear headphones that don’t create a complete seal—they do come with an IPX4 rating, allowing you to use them in the rain or during workouts without worrying about moisture damage.
