TikTok Introduces Local Feeds Feature in the U.S.
TikTok has rolled out a new feature called “Local Feeds,” which allows users to opt in and access content tailored to their specific GPS location. This feature is reminiscent of the “Nearby Feeds” that debuted in the UK and Europe last December.
This marks the first significant update for US users since TikTok transitioned to new ownership last month. The launch faced some challenges, including a significant outage attributed to a “cascading systems failure.”
The Local Feeds will showcase content related to travel, events, restaurants, shopping, and posts from local businesses and creators. By default, this feature is disabled and is not available for users under 18. TikTok assures that the precise location tracking for this feature is only active while the app is in use. Users who opt in will find the Local Feed as a new tab on their home screen within the app.
