TikTok Shuts Down Account Featuring Musk Documentary

Just before the release of Alex Gibney’s documentary on Musk, TikTok has taken the step of banning the film’s social media account. The platform has not provided any immediate comments regarding this action. Reports indicate that the film’s distributor was notified on Friday afternoon about an impending “permanent suspension.” There has been no response from the distributor regarding this situation.

While TikTok is not officially linked to Elon Musk, the film features part owner Larry Ellison, who appears in a text message offering financial support for Musk’s Twitter acquisition.

Recently, YouTube, Meta, X, and TikTok faced criticism for rejecting advertisements for the film. YouTube and Google quickly acknowledged their mistake and reversed their decision. In contrast, TikTok and X have maintained their refusal to allow paid promotions for the documentary.

The ban on the documentary’s account represents a significant escalation, especially considering that just before its removal, the account encouraged viewers to watch the film “before it gets shut down.”
