Tim Cook Met with Former Windows Chief at Jeffrey Epstein’s Request
Emails released by the Justice Department reveal that former Windows chief Steven Sinofsky sought advice from Jeffrey Epstein regarding his $14 million “retirement” package in November 2012, as well as potential career moves at companies like Samsung and Apple. One document indicates that shortly after Sinofsky’s departure was made public, Epstein reached out to inform him that Apple CEO Tim Cook was “excited to meet.”
However, there was a catch: Epstein mentioned that Cook had heard Sinofsky was starting a venture with “farstall.” While Epstein was uncertain about the spelling—his messages often contained typos—it seems he was referring to Scott Forstall, the former iOS VP, whose exit from Apple had been announced just a month earlier.
Despite this initial hiccup, an email exchange six months later shows Sinofsky confirming that he did meet with Cook, who suggested they should reconnect when Sinofsky was ready to work full-time.
In the interim, another email from Epstein to someone named Ian Osborne reveals that Osborne planned to call later that day after meeting with Tim Cook that morning.
Osborne’s email address is redacted, but it appears to be from Ian Osborne, a British investor known for his connections with billionaires before launching a SPAC, Social Capital Hedosophia, in 2017 alongside Chamath Palihapitiya. A report last year indicated that a court case in London uncovered emails exchanged between Osborne and Epstein in 2012, discussing efforts to lobby political figures and banking insiders to secure the appointment of “our friend” Jes Staley as CEO of Barclays.
