Time-Traveling Samurai Star in Netflix’s Top Fighting Anime Comeback

Baki Hanma is back, diving into another mind-bending clash that elevates this fighting anime to new heights in Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai. The latest series hits Netflix on February 26.

Following his intense showdown with his father, Yujiro Hanma, Baki and his fellow legendary fighters find themselves in a state of restlessness. They’ve already faced off against a prehistoric caveman and a beast strong enough to take on dinosaurs, setting a high bar for excitement. For a time, it seems nothing could surpass their encounter with Pickle the caveman. But then, a secret plot begins to unfold 364 meters beneath Tokyo Skytree: the resurrection of Japan’s greatest swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi.

Yes, that Musashi. The undefeated samurai from the 1600s, renowned for his dual-blade technique and his legendary 62 duels. As warriors like Doppo Orochi, Jack Hanma, and Kaoru Hanayama gear up to join the fray, Baki prepares to step back into the ring. After all, it’s not every day you get the chance to test your skills against one of history’s most celebrated fighters.

What ensues is an extraordinary clash across time. Baki, the strongest underground fighter, goes head-to-head with Miyamoto Musashi, the ultimate sword master. The outcome is a mixed martial arts battle that transcends time and space. Will the expertise of modern martial arts stand up to the lethal skills of a man who thrived in an era of conflict and bloodshed? Baki and his fellow fighters might not like the answer.

Baki-Dou is based on the manga by Keisuke Itagaki, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion from 2014 to 2018. The Baki franchise follows Baki Hanma’s lifelong mission to surpass and defeat his father, Yujiro, the strongest man alive, by continuously honing his martial arts abilities and raw fighting strength. While the battles often draw from real martial arts, the series frequently takes wild turns, as demonstrated by the resurrection of Pickle the caveman and now the return of the legendary samurai Musashi Miyamoto.

The new series Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai premieres on Netflix on February 26.
