Timothée Chalamet Explores Paul Atreides’ Leadership Journey in Dune: Part Three, Praising Denis Villeneuve’s Vision
Timothée Chalamet has teased that Dune: Part Three will showcase a “different” version of Paul Atreides, as the narrative unfolds 15-20 years after the previous installment. In a conversation during the promotion of his latest film, he shared insights about the next chapter in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi saga.
“Without revealing too much about Dune: Part Three, I’m portraying an older character who has been shaped by years of leadership and carries that burden. It’s a shift,” he noted.
When discussing the film’s tone, he remarked, “I don’t want to give too much away. But I can say that Denis has been incredibly insightful in addressing the challenges. Many of our creative discussions were centered around the hurdles of crafting a third film, especially after the first two were so well-received.”
Chalamet also elaborated on the stark differences between his roles in Marty Supreme and Dune 3, explaining how this contrast helped him navigate the demands of filming both projects back-to-back. “If the roles had been similar, it could have been trickier. I would have thought, ‘How do I keep these characters distinct?’”
“They are such different characters, and the films’ tones are worlds apart,” he added. “One is a high-wire, Safdie brothers-style New York period piece set in the 1950s about an ambitious, borderline delusional character, while the other is a grand sci-fi epic from Denis Villeneuve.”
Chalamet wrapped up filming Dune 3 last month, joining returning stars Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Josh Brolin, Christopher Walken, and Jason Momoa, along with new cast member Robert Pattinson. This threequel adapts Frank Herbert’s Dune: Messiah, placing Paul at the center of an intergalactic conflict involving the Fremen and various political factions vying for control of the valuable Spice.
Dune: Part Three is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.
