Todd Howard hints at unannounced Fallout projects in the works.
Even though it’s been over a decade since the last true installment in the series and Fallout 5 remains elusive, Todd Howard from Bethesda has hinted that there are unannounced Fallout projects in the pipeline.
While Bethesda has a reputation for crafting engaging games, it’s wise not to get overly excited about a sequel just yet. The studio tends to focus on one title at a time and is currently juggling three major franchises: Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield. This means fans might be in for a long wait. The success of the Fallout TV series has only amplified the desire for new game content to complement it.
In a recent conversation, Howard mentioned to an outlet, “Fallout as a franchise is the one that we’re still doing the most work in above anything.” This suggests that while much of the team is dedicated to Elder Scrolls VI, there are still gaming projects related to Fallout that are being developed, though details remain under wraps for now.
Howard also pointed out that despite the mixed reception of Fallout 76, “we’ve never stopped developing Fallout; we’ve had a full team on it for a long time.” However, it’s evident that many fans are eager for a new single-player experience reminiscent of the main series.
With the recent success of Baldur’s Gate 3 and the popularity of the TV series, it would be exciting to see a new team explore the D&D-inspired CRPG style of the original Fallout games. Still, I can’t help but feel skeptical about any major releases coming our way anytime soon.
Bethesda’s design director has expressed a desire for Fallout 5 to be a game you could immerse yourself in for 600 hours, emphasizing, “that’s the kind of games we make.”
