Todd Howard reveals Bethesda is exploring ideas from Fallout Season 3 for future games.
The second season of the Fallout TV series on Prime Video has kicked off with a strong reception, and Todd Howard, the franchise’s head honcho, is already contemplating how elements from a potential third season could be integrated into the video games that first brought us into the post-apocalyptic world.
Even though Fallout season 2 just premiered, Howard has shared that work is actively underway for a third season. “On both the game and TV show fronts, we’re currently writing season 3,” he mentioned in a recent interview. What’s particularly intriguing is that the writers of the show are in discussions with Bethesda about possibly incorporating aspects of the series into the gaming universe.
“We’re having those discussions now about what we’re planning for season 3 of the show and what elements we can bring into our games at that time, ensuring they feel organic and authentic,” Howard elaborated.
While it’s easy to be skeptical about how this cross-media collaboration will play out, it’s likely we might see some updates in Fallout 76, especially since the recent Burning Springs expansion introduced a character played by Walton Goggins, who also appears in the series. There are also rumors of a remaster for Fallout 3, but it seems unlikely that Bethesda would add new storylines to a nearly 20-year-old game, especially given their approach to remastering The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion.
As for any potential crossover in the much-anticipated Fallout 5, it might be wise to temper expectations. Howard has previously stated that developing a new Fallout game typically takes around five years, and right now, the studio is fully focused on The Elder Scrolls 6. So, it looks like we might be waiting a while before we see Fallout 5 hit the shelves.
