Tom Cruise’s upcoming film takes an unexpected turn.
Tom Cruise is revving up for a sequel to his iconic 1990s hit, Days of Thunder. After much speculation, the follow-up is set to race into theaters in 2028, featuring Anne Hathaway, who has had a standout summer with her roles in The Odyssey and The End of Oak Street.
Live. Fight. Run. Repeat.
The original Days of Thunder showcased Tom Cruise as Cole Trickle, a rookie driver navigating the intense world of NASCAR. Following the success of Top Gun: Maverick, buzz began circulating about a revival of Days of Thunder.
Now, those rumors have been confirmed, as Tom Cruise shared a brief video on X announcing the project. The clip not only revealed Hathaway’s involvement but also showcased a special race car design promoting the summer 2028 release.
While plot specifics remain under wraps, it’s confirmed that Cruise will reprise his role as Cole Trickle. Hathaway will play a significant character described as a “team owner and engineer,” crucial to the sequel’s storyline. The release date has been narrowed down to June 2, 2028.
The screenplay is penned by Will Staples, known for Without Remorse, and the film will be directed by Jonathan Levine, recognized for Mr. Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story. With Cruise being a strong advocate for theatrical releases, Days of Thunder is set to be filmed in IMAX and will be available in IMAX, Dolby Cinema, and 4DX formats.
Mark your calendars for June 2, 2028, when Days of Thunder hits theaters. Before that, keep an eye out for Tom Cruise in Alejandro Iñárritu’s Digger, where he’ll take on a role that’s quite different from his usual fare.
