Top 8 Easter Eggs in Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a delightful tribute to the caped crusader’s extensive lore, but it goes beyond just nods to Bruce Wayne’s adventures. Developer TT Games has crammed this blocky open-world brawler with references to a wide array of pop culture, including other video games, films, TV shows, and internet memes. With the game currently in early access, players are already sharing some hilarious moments. Here are a few of the standout clips we’ve come across.

In one scene, Batman encounters an animatronic bear that seems intent on devouring him, a clear nod to the horror series Five Nights at Freddy’s, where animatronic creatures are known for their sinister behavior.

Another clever reference comes when Bruce slides a business card across a desk. A nearby character admires the card’s design, asking if it’s made of eggshell stationary. This moment cleverly alludes to a famous scene from the 2000 film American Psycho, which ties back to Batman lore since Christian Bale, who portrayed Patrick Bateman in that film, also donned the cape in the Dark Knight trilogy.

The game also features a humorous nod to the black comedy sitcom It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. During a confrontation with the Penguin, he quips, “so anyway, I started blasting,” echoing a memorable line from the show delivered by Danny DeVito’s character, Frank Reynolds. DeVito himself played the Penguin in the 1992 film Batman Returns, making this reference particularly rich.

In a fun twist, Legacy of the Dark Knight pays homage to Resident Evil 4, not through Leon Kennedy’s iconic moves but by referencing the game’s enigmatic merchant. Bat-Mite appears with a design reminiscent of the merchant, complete with a purple bandana, and attempts to mimic the classic line, “What are you buying?” though he struggles with the delivery.

Another Capcom homage occurs when Batman takes down Black Mask’s car, reminiscent of the Bonus Stage in Street Fighter 2, where players destroy vehicles for extra points.

There’s also a clever exchange in a diner that references the “Pay It Forward” sketch from I Think You Should Leave. A diner patron inquires about food challenges, and the waiter responds that if they can consume “55 burgers, 55 shakes, and 55 tacos,” they’ll be asked to leave.

During the Poison Ivy boss fight, a scene features her snapdragon pet snapping at each other, which seems to be a direct homage to the raptors’ entrance in the kitchen scene from Jurassic Park.

In a particularly amusing moment, Alfred, Batman’s loyal butler, quotes a well-known tweet from Michael Caine, who starred in Batman Begins: “Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.”

These are just a few of the many references packed into Legacy of the Dark Knight, with plenty more likely hidden throughout for those who spend countless hours exploring the game.
