Transform 2D Apps into 3D Experiences with the Galaxy XR Headset

Android XR is set to introduce an exciting new feature that transforms 2D apps, websites, images, and videos into immersive “3D experiences.” Dubbed “auto-spatialization,” this feature was first revealed last year and is rolling out as an experimental option for Samsung Galaxy XR headsets starting Tuesday.

A video from Google showcases how auto-spatialization could enhance your viewing experience.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind: auto-spatialization supports content up to 1080p at 30fps, may consume slightly more battery power, and only functions on the app window currently in focus. If you own a Galaxy XR device, this could offer a fresh way to engage with the content in your headset.

Alongside auto-spatialization, several other updates for Android XR are coming to the Galaxy XR. You can now pin apps to walls, see your real hands while interacting with virtual content in home space mode, and when you put the device back on, your previous apps will be visible, allowing for a seamless return to your activities. Additionally, there are now over 100 apps available on Google Play for XR, more than double the number available at the Galaxy XR’s launch in October.
