Treyarch, the studio behind Call of Duty, is parting ways with its head after nearly ten years.

Mark Gordon, the head of Treyarch, is stepping down after an impressive 22-year tenure, with the last decade spent leading the studio.

The announcement came via a post on Twitter from Treyarch, revealing that Gordon is retiring to embark on a new journey.

“Mark’s influence on the franchise has been profound, from his work on Call of Duty 2: Big Red One and Call of Duty 3, to World at War and the entire Black Ops series,” the statement noted.

Gordon began his career in gaming as a programmer and joined Treyarch in 2005 as CTO, the same year the studio launched its first Call of Duty title, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. He took over as studio head in 2016, sharing the role with Dan Bunting and Jason Blundell. After Blundell left in 2020 to start Deviation Games, which has since closed, and Bunting departed in 2021 following a sexual harassment investigation, Gordon became the sole studio head. Under his leadership, Treyarch contributed to the releases of Call of Duty: Vanguard, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7.

Kevin Hendrickson, the current COO, and production director Yale Miller will now co-lead the studio as co-studio heads. Both have extensive experience with the Call of Duty series, having been part of Treyarch and Activision for many years.
