Tupac’s Legacy Lives On in Sega’s Upcoming Action Game, 30 Years Posthumously

Stranger Than Heaven is an exciting new action-adventure title from Sega, linked to the Yakuza franchise. It recently showcased a trailer and announced a release date of January 2027 during Summer Game Fest, but the highlight was undoubtedly the appearance of rapper Tupac in the game.

For those who may not know, Tupac Shakur passed away 30 years ago in 1996 at the young age of 25. He is celebrated as one of the most impactful musicians in history, earning numerous posthumous honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His likeness has appeared before, notably in a hologram performance at Coachella in 2012 alongside Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, making this not the first instance of Tupac’s image being used after his passing.

In addition to Tupac, the game will also feature Bunta Sugawara, a legendary Japanese actor famous for his roles in yakuza films, marking him as the second deceased figure to appear in Stranger Than Heaven.

This game will serve as an origin story for the Tojo Clan, known from the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series. Set across various time periods in Japan from 1915 to 1965, it will follow protagonist Makoto Daito and his lifelong friend Yu Shinjo as they navigate the rise of Japan’s criminal underworld and its entertainment industry.

Stranger Than Heaven is set to launch on January 15, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

It looks like RGG’s upcoming action-adventure game is poised to live up to its intriguing codename, Project Century.
