The Eragon series on Disney Plus is finally gaining momentum with the addition of two showrunners alongside executive producer Marc Webb.

According to reports, Todd Harthan from High Potential is stepping in as co-creator with Eragon author Christopher Paolini and will co-showrun alongside Todd Helbing of Superman & Lois fame.

Based on Paolini’s The Inheritance Cycle, Eragon follows a farm boy who becomes the first Dragon Rider in over a century, embarking on a quest to overthrow an evil king.

The logline states, “When destiny chooses an ordinary teenager to become the first Dragon Rider in over a hundred years, he must forge an unbreakable bond with his dragon, master ancient magic, and confront the mad king who destroyed the Riders.”

There are four books in The Inheritance Cycle series, but it remains unclear whether the Disney Plus adaptation will cover one book over multiple seasons or take a different route. Additionally, there are several spin-offs from the World of Eragon series to explore. The entire franchise has sold over 33 million copies to date.

However, past adaptations have shown that not all dragons soar. The 2006 film featuring Ed Speleers and Jeremy Irons, while earning a decent $250 million at the box office, is often labeled as one of the worst blockbusters of its time, currently holding a mere 15% on Rotten Tomatoes. Long-time fans are undoubtedly hoping for a high-quality reboot on Disney’s streaming platform, especially since the series was first announced in 2022 but has remained quiet until now.
