Two long-lost Virtual Boy games, including a scrapped F-Zero racer and a unique platformer from the Fire Emblem team, finally launch on Switch after 30 years.
The Virtual Boy is set to make its comeback this February, and Nintendo has an exciting lineup of classic titles along with some surprising additions. From the fast-paced action of Zero Racers to the hidden gems like Virtual Boy Wario Land, there’s a lot to be excited about.
A new overview trailer for the Virtual Boy and its collection of Nintendo Classics has just been released, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect when this revamped VR-like device launches on February 17. Players who remember the Virtual Boy from the ’90s will recognize seven games: 3-D Tetris, Galactic Pinball, Golf, The Mansion of Innsmouth, Red Alarm, Teleroboxer, and of course, Virtual Boy Wario Land.
But that’s not all. Two additional titles are making their debut—games that were originally slated for release nearly three decades ago but never saw the light of day. First up is Zero Racers, the F-Zero racing game that would have introduced 3D graphics to the franchise back in 1996. Expect high-speed races featuring familiar characters like Captain Falcon, James McCloud, and Jody Summer.
Zero Racers isn’t the only long-awaited title finally making its way to players; Dragon Hopper (now known as D-Hopper), a top-down action-adventure game developed by Intelligent Systems, is also on the way. This title was shelved after the original Virtual Boy’s commercial struggles, but excitement is building following Nintendo’s trailer. As one fan put it, D-Hopper is “that big of a deal.”
Additionally, the Virtual Boy will offer new features, such as the ability to change the color scheme of games from the classic black-red to green, yellow, white, and possibly more. This customization extends to the headset itself, provided you remove the red filter from the lenses. In short, 2026 is shaping up to be a year filled with nostalgia and some exciting new experiences—let’s hope it all lives up to the hype!
