Ubisoft Hides Details of Its Scrapped Prince of Persia Remake
Ubisoft recently made waves by canceling several projects, including the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. This title had faced numerous challenges since its announcement in 2020, ultimately restarting development from scratch in 2023. Although the remake may never be released, some concept art and screenshots from its 2024 pre-alpha version have begun to surface online. Ubisoft is actively working to remove these images before they gain too much visibility.
The leaked visuals come from a 2024 workshop presentation. While they don’t showcase gameplay, they provide a glimpse into the direction the team was heading before the cancellation. The presentation was initially uploaded to YouTube but was quickly taken down due to copyright claims. Nevertheless, fans managed to capture and share the images across social media.
From the buzz, it seems the Sands of Time remake was further along in development than initially thought. Eman Ayaz, an actress who hinted at her involvement in the game, had even filmed a marketing promo just two months before the cancellation.
“I pushed myself past old limits and discovered things I didn’t even know existed inside of me through the lives that I lived in this character,” Ayaz shared in a YouTube video. “It was something that’s completely out of the range of any character that I’ve been cast in in the past. And I got to do things I’ve never gotten to do before. And it brought out what I honestly believe is the best performance of my career. And now nobody is ever going to see that. I can’t stress enough how much I had kind of planned my life around the release of this project.”
While the Sands of Time remake is the most notable cancellation from Ubisoft this month, the company has also shelved five other games and delayed seven more as part of a broader restructuring effort. On a brighter note, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still on track for release.
