Ultimate Drummer Transforms Rock Band into an Unexpected Action-RPG Soulslike
Tights, chainmail, and plate armor might be the go-to gear for epic battles, but nothing feels quite as right as blue denim. A fresh soulslike from an unexpected developer invites you to channel your inner powerhouse. In Ultimate Drummer, the highly anticipated debut from a creative team known for their quirky style, you’re the only one with the skills, courage, and unique hairstyle to restore harmony to the kingdom.
If you’re not familiar with this team, you might recognize their bizarre creations. Jon Baken and Brian Tessler, both animators and musicians, have been crafting surreal short videos since the Vine era. Their work features bizarre, computer-generated figures that defy logic, often caught in wild, chaotic scenarios. You might remember their memorable characters from a popular animated series. While they’ve dominated the digital realm, this marks their first foray into interactive gaming.
The world of Ultimate Drummer is in chaos. Once, a supergroup of gods created a perfect harmony, but they exiled their drummer for becoming too powerful. This vengeful deity only sharpened his skills, returning to wreak havoc on the other gods. As the new hero wielding divine drumming powers, it’s your mission to rescue each member of this celestial band and cleanse the world of its corruption.
As you navigate the vibrant landscape on your drum set, prepare to tackle challenging platforming sections, leap through perilous dungeons, and soar over mountains of plastic lawn chairs. Expect to encounter quirky enemies and intense boss fights in the darkest corners of the realm. All of this unfolds while your hero maintains a continuous drum loop, which you can customize, save as presets, and unlock new sound samples. Need a third arm to hurl battle axes at explosive vultures? No problem.
You can also unlock stylish outfits for your hero and new skins for your drum kit, alongside a character creator that can produce a variety of unique designs—though achieving a standard skull shape might be a challenge.
Is it the most polished soulslike out there? Who knows? What matters is the chance to dive headfirst into the chaotic world of Ultimate Drummer. Get ready to face off against oversized heads reminiscent of classic wrestling icons, dropping down like the Silver Spheres from a well-known title. Ultimate Drummer is packed with surprises, with a twist around every corner. Whether it’s a new type of gun-wielding ogre or epic battles, it’s a wild ride—much like jazz, where anything can be considered a bit unpredictable.
