Unexpected Victory: Silksong Takes Home Steam’s Game of the Year Award

Valve has revealed the winners of the 2025 Steam Awards, and it’s no surprise that Hollow Knight: Silksong snagged the Game of the Year title. It also took home the “Best Game You Suck At” award, which raises some interesting questions about its difficulty. Given the overwhelming praise for Silksong since its launch in September—an event that nearly overwhelmed the entire digital gaming distribution system—its Game of the Year win seemed almost inevitable.

Hades II was recognized as the Best Game on Steam Deck, an accolade we had already informally bestowed upon it. The gameplay mechanics of Hades are perfect for quick sessions, and its stylized graphics adapt beautifully to the handheld format. Silent Hill f earned the Outstanding Visual Style award, and while it’s undeniably stunning, I can’t shake the feeling that Dream BBQ, with its uniquely trippy visuals, deserved more recognition.
