Unlocking Brewster and The Roost Cafe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Initially, we expected the next update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons to focus mainly on the return of The Roost, the beloved cafe from earlier titles. However, the 2.0 update is packed with a variety of exciting new features, with The Roost being a standout addition. Keep in mind that this coffee shop won’t automatically appear on your island after the update; you’ll need to track down Brewster, who will run the cafe once it’s established. Here’s how to locate Brewster and kick off the process for setting up The Roost.
To find Brewster, start by visiting the museum, where The Roost will eventually be situated. Speak with Blathers, who will mention his idea of opening a cafe but will need Brewster’s help to make it happen. He’ll also bring up gyroids, another returning feature in this update, and share a photo of Brewster, tasking you with finding him. This leads you to another nostalgic element from previous Animal Crossing games: island boat tours with Kapp’n. Head to the dock on your beach, and you’ll find Kapp’n ready to take you on an adventure. Chat with him to learn about the mystery island trips, and pay him 1,000 Nook Miles for the ride. Remember, you can only take one trip with Kapp’n each day. He’ll serenade you with a sea shanty during the journey, and once you arrive, you can explore the island just like you would on airport tours. In our experience, Brewster is usually easy to find on this first trip.
When you spot Brewster, let him know Blathers sent you, and he’ll agree to come to your island without much persuasion. He’ll hand you a gyroid fragment and instruct you to bury it on your island, water it, and wait a day. However, this is separate from the cafe setup, so you can leave the island after this. Make sure to take advantage of your time there by hitting rocks with your shovel and digging up fossil cracks, as they may yield more gyroid fragments.
Once you’re back on your island, return to the museum and share the good news with Blathers. He’ll discuss the need to start construction, which means the museum will be closed the following day. This means it will take two days before The Roost opens after you complete this step, so it’s best to do this as soon as you can. The Roost will be located upstairs in the museum, to the left of the art section, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee. Isabelle can visit, and you can invite other characters using Amiibo figures or cards. Plus, other players can join you for a coffee break as well. We’ll keep you updated with more details as we uncover them.
