Until Dawn 2 Confirmed for PS5, Set to Release in 2027
Sony is making a comeback with a highly anticipated sequel to its breakout horror title, Until Dawn 2. This time around, players will follow a fresh cast of characters—ghost hunter influencers aiming to create a viral video. What could possibly go wrong?
Set to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2027, the game is being developed by Firesprite.
The new storyline revolves around a team of ghost hunters who run a popular paranormal channel called “Dead True.” While their scares are typically staged, they soon find themselves facing genuine terrors on a remote island, where they must survive until dawn.
The setting is Akashina Island, a place abandoned by a mysterious corporation and now populated by attractive young adults destined for gruesome fates. Expect plenty of tension, a muscular antagonist, and the classic horror trope of sex leading to death, all punctuated by a graphic murder at the hands of a masked killer. One character, Luke, meets his end after a dramatic leap from a cliff. The trailer also features a return from actor Peter Stormare, reprising his role as the enigmatic Dr. Hill.
Interestingly, the trailer does not mention Supermassive Games, the studio behind the original Until Dawn and other horror titles like Directive 8020. Although they considered a sequel shortly after the first game’s success, it never materialized. Instead, Firesprite, known for titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain and The Persistence, is taking the reins for this project.
For those unfamiliar with the series, the core concept is that it functions like an interactive movie, where player choices directly influence the fates of the characters. Make poor (or amusing) decisions, and you could see them meet horrific ends, which is reflected in the tagline, “Everyone can live. Everyone can die.” We’ll see if Firesprite can capture the magic of the cult classic when Until Dawn 2 arrives in 2027.
If you weren’t a fan of the original, it might be worth giving this sequel a shot.
