Upcoming FPS from Titanfall and Apex Legends creators resurfaces on Steam ahead of its launch after weeks of silence.
Since Highguard wrapped up last year’s The Game Awards, anticipation has been building for more details on the new shooter from the creators of Titanfall and Apex Legends. With the release date looming just around the corner, excitement is palpable, even though updates have been sparse. There are whispers of progress, but the extent of it remains unclear.
The game’s SteamDB reveals some interesting insights. Recently, the product page on Steam has seen several updates, including the addition of multiple languages, a shift in user tags, and some refreshed assets. While this may sound significant, it’s not as extensive as it appears.
The user tags come with a caveat, as they aren’t solely controlled by the developers. Tags associated with any title on Valve’s platform can be influenced by user feedback, allowing players to correct potentially misleading labels and help others discover games they might enjoy.
A notable change for Highguard is the transition from the ‘World War 2’ tag to ‘Massively Multiplayer,’ which is entirely warranted based on the available screenshots. Highguard presents a PvP fantasy setting that strays far from the traditional Allies versus Axis narrative.
What’s particularly intriguing are the new assets that have been introduced. Tools to monitor public pages before and after such changes are limited, and while the Wayback Machine doesn’t reveal much, it suggests that developer Wildlight Entertainment is up to something.
Highguard is set to launch on January 26, and there’s no reason to believe that will change. We’ll soon uncover what’s really happening.
Bungie has also addressed a pre-order glitch for Marathon that amusingly caused Destiny 2 to start installing on Steam, leading to some lighthearted reactions.
