Upcoming James Bond game for Switch 2 delayed but still in the works.
Rumors began circulating Wednesday morning that the highly anticipated James Bond game, 007 First Light, might face an indefinite delay on the Nintendo Switch 2. In what could be a response to these rumors, or perhaps just coincidentally, developer IO Interactive took to X to confirm that the game is still set for its May 27 release on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X, with the Switch 2 version expected to arrive “later this summer.”
This delay for the Switch 2 follows a previous postponement for all platforms. Initially scheduled for a March 27 launch, the game was pushed back in December 2025. IO Interactive’s CEO, Hakan Abrak, stated that this decision was made to ensure the game meets the high standards players expect from day one.
IO Interactive has been contacted for further details regarding the Switch 2 delay.
This isn’t the first time a major title has seen its Switch 2 version postponed. Borderlands 4 experienced an indefinite delay on the platform after its release on other systems last fall. Additionally, Elden Ring was announced for Switch 2 alongside the console but faced delays following a concerning demo at Gamescom in 2025, although a recent preview at GDC indicated that the port is still in development.
Not all third-party titles for Switch 2 have faced delays, though. Cronos: The New Dawn launched simultaneously on the platform, as did Resident Evil Requiem and the upcoming Pragmata, both developed and published by Capcom. It seems they might have a winning formula for getting their games onto Switch 2.
For now, Switch 2 players will have to wait a bit longer to dive into the James Bond origin story. When it finally arrives, gamers can expect to meet new takes on familiar characters like M and Q, along with original characters, including the villain portrayed by Lenny Kravitz.
