Upcoming Marvel Comic to Uncover the Reasons Behind the Battles in Marvel Tokon
With the launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls just around the corner on August 6, Marvel is gearing up to celebrate with a special comic lineup throughout August. Developed by the acclaimed Arc System Works, this tag-team fighter is generating a lot of buzz.
Marvel has revealed on its official blog that there will be two significant comic tie-ins to coincide with the game’s release. The first is a one-shot titled Marvel Tōkon: First Strike #1, which promises to delve into the game’s lore and provide backstories for both the playable heroes and the antagonists, the Promoter and Champion. A preview of the comic showcases a striking cover featuring characters from the game, along with three pages of interior art. These pages depict the Champion in a devastated city, the Avengers battling a threat in New York, and Storm taking down a Sentinel.
The writing team includes Steve Orlando, Josh Trujillo, and Tom Waltz, while the art is handled by Bruno Büll, Áthila Fabbio, and Ryusei Yamada. Each section of the comic appears to be crafted by a different writer-artist duo, focusing on the three stories highlighted in the preview.
In addition to the one-shot, Marvel is also rolling out variant covers for several ongoing series, all themed around Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls starting in August. The first 11 variants have been revealed, showcasing the game’s designs for beloved Marvel characters. A standout among these is Ryan Stegman’s variant for the tie-in comic, featuring dynamic art of Wolverine charging toward an unseen foe.
For those looking to snag a specific variant from their local comic shop, here’s the list of the 11 announced variants.
Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls will be available on August 6 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC.
