Valve Required Developers to Submit Footage of Their Game’s “Alien Orgy” for Steam Approval, Now Cleared for Release
Yesterday, January 27, the quirky sci-fi point-and-click adventure Earth Must Die launched on Steam. While new game releases are a daily occurrence, this one nearly faced a ban from Valve due to its depiction of an alien orgy.
“Until just a few days ago, we weren’t sure if Earth Must Die would actually make it to Steam,” the developer stated in a press release. “Valve informed us they were ‘unable to verify’ the context of the alien orgy, and we had to record and submit footage for their review.”
This peculiar scene is part of the game’s mature content warning. “There’s a puzzle set in an alien adult bookshop,” a brief description on the store page notes, “featuring an alien orgy represented as a writhing mass on the floor.”
Evidently, this wasn’t enough for the team at Valve, leading to their request for additional verification. Thankfully, Earth Must Die received the green light. “Fortunately, the orgy was approved,” the statement concluded.
Developed by Size Five Games, Earth Must Die follows VValak Lizardtongue and his trusty robot companion Milky as they strive to protect the Tyrythian Kingdom from the invading Terranoids and ultimately destroy Earth. The trailer showcases a hilarious and chaotic experience, bolstered by a fantastic voice cast that includes Ben Starr from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Mike Wozniak from Man Down.
If Size Five Games rings a bell, you might recall their previous title, Lair of the Clockwork God, a well-received point-and-click/platformer from 2020 that was notably less risqué. Now, it’s time for me to fend off a Terranoid invasion, with no distractions from the story whatsoever.
