Warframe Community on Alert Over Suspicious Invite Activity
Players of Warframe are encountering strange in-game messages, often filled with explicit language or threats. The exact cause of these messages remains unclear, but many in the community suspect that the multiplayer shooter may have been compromised. The developer has advised players to avoid accepting these suspicious invites.
Concerns have been raised on platforms like the Warframe subreddit, where players have shared their experiences with these bizarre messages, which sometimes contain ableist slurs or nonsensical content. This has led to speculation that the accounts sending these messages may have been hacked. The developer is aware of the situation and is taking measures to address it. In the meantime, players are encouraged to report any such messages through the support channels.
“We are aware of some nefarious invites happening in-game and are actively working on shutting it down. Please do not accept these invites!”
Some of the messages have mentioned a connection to the Warframe community group OpenWF, which aims to make Warframe playable offline for preservation. However, representatives from OpenWF have issued a statement on Discord distancing themselves from the spam, clarifying that they are not involved.
“Hi, we are aware of people abusing game invites on live. We just want to say that we have nothing to do with this, nor do we have access to the ‘game source code’ as claimed in one of the messages. In case you’re new here: This is a preservation project with source-available server reimplementations and some client-side modifications. None of this is something we make available for the latest game version and especially not the live version of the game.”
We’ve reached out to the developer for further comment on the situation and will provide updates if we receive a response.
