Warframe to Introduce a New Star System This December
Before the year wraps up, Warframe is set to expand significantly. The Warframe: Tau expansion is launching for free in December, introducing a new star system along with a wealth of additional content.
Digital Extremes confirmed the December 2026 release window for Warframe: Tau during Devstream 198 on October 30. This stream showcased more of the expansion, which was first teased at TennoCon earlier this year. For the past thirteen years, players have explored the Origin System, but this expansion finally brings a new star system that has been hinted at in the game’s lore.
The expansion features a new single-player chapter and introduces the 67th playable Warframe, Brysko, who is voiced by Matt Mercer and draws inspiration from classic noir detective characters. Players can earn Brysko through gameplay or opt to purchase him directly from the Warframe Market.
After completing the new story chapter, players can dive into missions set in two locations within the Tau system: Perita and Fornax. A dedicated Tau System Star Chart will act as the central hub for all this fresh content. Additionally, new cosmetics for Koumei and Nezha are on the way, along with a host of future content aimed at enriching the Tau experience.
While the upcoming updates will primarily focus on Tau, Digital Extremes Community Director Megan Everett reassured players that the Origin System remains a priority. “To all our players, new and returning, the Origin System is not being left behind,” Everett stated. “While we focus right now on Tau, we have so many stories to tell, and now just have more places to share them.”
Warframe: Tau will be available on all platforms where the sci-fi shooter is currently playable in December. It’s shaping up to be a busy end of the year for Digital Extremes, especially with the recent announcement that Soulframe Open Preludes will be accessible to everyone starting November 6.
Listen up, Tenno and Envoys!
