“Warhammer Leader Declares No AI-Generated Content Allowed”

As the gaming industry grapples with the implications of artificial intelligence, fans of the Warhammer tabletop franchise can breathe a sigh of relief for now. Kevin Rountree, the CEO of Games Workshop, recently shared insights on the company’s stance regarding AI in an investor report.

“We have established an internal policy that is currently very cautious,” he stated. “We do not permit AI-generated content or the use of AI in our design processes, nor its unauthorized application outside of our company, including in any of our competitions.”

Rountree also highlighted the security concerns associated with personal devices that have AI capabilities, mentioning, “We need to monitor and safeguard ourselves from a data compliance, security, and governance standpoint; AI and machine learning tools seem to be integrated into our phones and laptops whether we want them to be or not.”

Despite this cautious approach, Games Workshop acknowledges the existence of AI. Rountree mentioned that “a few senior managers” are keeping an eye on the technology, though he admitted, “None are that excited about it yet.” While they will continue to observe developments, he emphasized that the company remains committed to “protecting our intellectual property and valuing our human creators.”

Looking ahead, Rountree pointed to the latter half of 2025, during which Games Workshop plans to “hire more creatives across various disciplines, from concept art to writing and sculpting.” He concluded, “We want talented and passionate individuals who contribute to making Warhammer the rich, evocative IP that our community loves.”

As AI technology becomes increasingly prevalent, with companies worldwide developing AI-driven solutions, Games Workshop’s decision to keep it at bay should resonate well with its dedicated fanbase. This approach may also serve as a model for other companies, demonstrating that staying informed about AI doesn’t necessitate its integration at the cost of human creativity.
