The new Harry Potter series on HBO Max is being touted as the “streaming event of the decade” by a Warner Bros executive.

JB Perrette, president of global streaming and games at Warner Bros. Discovery, shared with the press at HBO Max’s UK launch that the Harry Potter series will “certainly [be] the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max, and arguably, I think, possibly in streaming period.” He emphasized that “there’s no other series that can be anywhere close to that.”

So, will this new adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy novels bring the magic? Perrette seems confident, praising the “scope of the production, the detail, and meticulousness of what they’re going through.” The potential sale of Warner Bros. to Netflix could also draw even more attention to the reboot.

Dominic McLaughlin will don the Gryffindor robes as Harry Potter, taking over from Daniel Radcliffe’s iconic portrayal of The Boy Who Lived, which began over twenty years ago and spanned eight blockbuster films.

Joining McLaughlin are fellow cast members Alistair Stout (Ron Weasley), Arabella Stanton (Hermione Granger), John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Nick Frost (Hagrid), Pappa Essiedu (Snape), and Jane McTeer (McGonagall). There were rumors of Cillian Murphy playing Voldemort in the HBO Max series, but the Oppenheimer actor has denied any involvement.

The Harry Potter series is planned to run for a decade, with each season adapting one of Rowling’s books. The first season is currently filming, with a release window set for 2027.
