Waymo Stops Ride After Passengers Found with Ghost Gun

Two individuals were taken into custody in San Francisco while riding in a Waymo robotaxi, which stopped and notified the police about their activities. The passengers, both juveniles, were found with a loaded AR-style ghost gun and were subsequently transported to a juvenile facility. Although the police report did not clarify who was driving the autonomous vehicle, Waymo later confirmed to an outlet that it was indeed one of their cars.

A representative stated that a “violation of our terms of service involving a firearm” was detected, prompting the vehicle to pull over and alert law enforcement. Earlier this year, a similar situation occurred when a Waymo vehicle pretended to have mechanical issues to stop after two passengers were drinking and firing a toy gun from the backseat. In that case, the riders were also minors. So, a word of advice for teens: if you’re planning to engage in reckless behavior, it’s best to avoid doing it in a robotaxi.
