Waze Introduces Exciting New AI Features
Waze is set to receive a significant AI upgrade. Google is incorporating its advanced AI assistant, Gemini, into the navigation app, aiming to enhance user customization for their journeys.
Among the four new features, two are specifically tied to Gemini. Waze is revamping its conversation reporting tool, which debuted in 2024, allowing drivers to use voice commands to report traffic issues and suggest map updates, such as road closures or incorrect address details. Additionally, Waze has rolled out Destination Search, enabling users to issue voice commands like “Find me a coffee shop that’s open right now” or “Locate the nearest gas station with the lowest prices” to discover their desired destinations.
This shift aligns with the advancements in conversational voice technology powered by AI. On the non-AI front, Waze is introducing a “less chatty” mode for voice prompts, ensuring that drivers can enjoy their music or podcasts without interruption while following navigation instructions. The app is also adding a Motorcycle Mode, which will provide shortcuts tailored for two-wheeled travel and offer more precise estimated times of arrival for optimal routing.
Lastly, Waze will now recommend routes based on a user’s previous trips and its own insights into local traffic patterns. If you prefer highways over local streets, Waze will prioritize those options in your routing suggestions.
While Google has yet to fully overhaul Waze with AI, Google Maps has been steadily gaining more AI-driven features, indicating the tech giant’s increasing focus on enhancing its primary navigation service.
