Windows 11 is nearing the launch of its Android app resume feature for PCs.
Microsoft is gearing up to enhance Windows 11’s functionality for resuming Android apps on a PC. Last year, the company rolled out its cross-device resume feature, allowing users to pick up OneDrive sessions from their Android devices on their PCs. Now, this capability is expanding to include Spotify playback, browsing sessions, and more.
The upgraded cross-device resume support, which has been in testing since August, is part of the latest Release Preview update for Windows 11 that began rolling out recently. This update enables users to continue Spotify playback on their PC from their phone, as well as work in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additionally, you can carry on with an Edge browsing session from your phone to your PC.
This feature closely resembles Handoff on macOS, which allows users to resume tasks across Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. Microsoft first unveiled its cross-device resume support for Windows 11 during its Build developer conference last year. Windows 10 also featured a similar app handoff capability, known as Project Rome, but it didn’t see widespread adoption among developers.
The inclusion of this feature in the Release Preview testing phase indicates that it will be available soon. The update also brings “enhanced” MIDI 2.0 support to Windows 11, improvements to voice typing, and fingerprint sensor support for Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS). For those with a Copilot Plus PC, this update will enable the new Settings Agent to support multiple languages, including German, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Italian, and Chinese (Simplified).
