Wonder Man Season 2 Announced, Surprising Fans Everywhere

Marvel TV is set to experience another exciting chapter with the announcement of a second season for the 2026 series, Wonder Man. This places the show in an exclusive group of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series. Since the launch of the Disney Plus era with WandaVision in 2021, only a few shows—Loki, What If…?, and Daredevil: Born Again—have received renewals.

The creative team behind the series, including Destin Daniel Cretton (who is also directing the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day) and Andrew Guest (known for Community), will return for the new season. They will be joined by series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, portraying the struggling superpowered actor Simon Williams, and Ben Kingsley, reprising his role as Trevor Slattery, aka The Mandarin, a character Kingsley has embodied since Iron Man 3.

While the first season of Wonder Man concluded with an open-ended finale, the renewal comes as a surprise for a few reasons. Typically, MCU shows don’t get additional seasons since their narratives often continue in other projects—like how WandaVision set the stage for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Agatha All Along, and VisionQuest. Additionally, Wonder Man is a unique entry for Marvel Studios, focusing more on the everyday lives of actors navigating Hollywood and building friendships rather than the usual heroics and villain confrontations.

Moreover, Wonder Man offers a refreshing perspective within the Marvel universe and has been well-received, which might lead some to doubt its potential audience. According to Nielsen, the show accumulated 618 million minutes of watch time and made it into the top 10 original streaming series. Interestingly, earlier this year, those same figures were labeled as “weak” and a “viewership disappointment,” marking a low point for Marvel on Disney+.

Despite the mixed reception of viewership numbers, Marvel Studios clearly has faith in Cretton and Guest’s vision for the series, as evidenced by the renewal. There were indications that, despite some Marvel fatigue, the studio believed viewers would appreciate the show if given a chance. To attract more viewers, Wonder Man was made available for free on YouTube, despite being a Disney Plus exclusive.

As for the timeline for the second season, it remains uncertain. Given Marvel Studios’ typical production schedules, it’s likely we won’t see it until at least 2028. Expect Cretton to field questions about the series during the press tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to release on July 31, 2026.
