Wordle is set to become a TV show with Jimmy Fallon joining the project.

Wordle, the addictive online word puzzle that captured the hearts of players worldwide in late 2021, is making the leap to television.

This new series is being produced in collaboration with a major media company and a well-known late-night host’s production team. The fast-paced game show will be filmed in Manchester, England, and will be hosted by Savannah Guthrie, a familiar face from morning television.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Savannah Guthrie on this project,” said the late-night host. “She brings a unique blend of intelligence, charm, and warmth that makes everyone feel at home. Plus, she knows how to run a show. I’m incredibly proud and excited, and I believe we’ve created a fantastic game for prime time.”

While the show will introduce a fresh format, it will still challenge contestants to tackle five-letter word puzzles. Players will form teams and compete in a “Wordle” arena, facing off in various challenges to win a cash prize, the amount of which has yet to be disclosed.

Back in October 2021, Wordle was the talk of the town. Created by Josh Wardle, a software engineer from Wales, the game invited players to guess a five-letter word within six attempts. Correct letters would light up green, while correct letters in the wrong spots would turn yellow, and incorrect letters would remain grey. With a new puzzle released daily, players around the globe had fresh words to discuss and solve.

As Wordle’s popularity skyrocketed, it was acquired for a significant sum in January 2022.

Even now, Wordle continues to be a cultural sensation, making it clear why there’s a push to bring this beloved game from the app to the television screen.

Casting for the inaugural season of the game show is currently underway, with production set to kick off later this year. If you consider yourself a Wordle whiz and are up for a trip to Europe to showcase your skills, this could be your chance.

The Wordle TV series is expected to debut in 2027 on NBC.
