Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time in Shaolin Album Now Available for Listening
Wu-Tang’s Once Upon A Time in Shaolin album has been notoriously hard to access, but now you can catch two snippets thanks to a recent episode of a podcast that dives into this exclusive record.
The album has a fascinating backstory, which the podcast explores in depth. In 2015, the only copy was purchased at auction by Martin Shkreli, a controversial pharmaceutical executive, with the stipulation that it couldn’t be commercially released until 2103. After Shkreli was forced to forfeit the album to the US government, it was sold in 2021 to the crypto art collective PleasrDAO, which has since facilitated its playback at special events.
In collaboration with PleasrDAO, the podcast hosted a listening party where they played the album for Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man, who had never heard it before. The event was recorded, capturing Method Man’s reaction, and you can listen to two snippets from the album at 32:30 and 39:02 during the episode.
As for Method Man’s thoughts? He simply stated, “I do not hate this album.”
