X Introduces ‘Original Content Rewards’ to Replace Revenue-Sharing Program
X is wrapping up its contentious revenue-sharing program for content creators, which has undergone several changes during Elon Musk’s leadership. A new Original Content Rewards program is set to launch on September 8th. To qualify, creators need a minimum of 500 verified followers and at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the past 90 days, among other criteria.
Creators will earn revenue based on “qualified impressions” of their “original content.” Qualified impressions refer to unique views from Premium subscribers on the Home Timeline feed, where at least half of the post is visible. Defining “original content” can be tricky, but it includes original reporting or analysis, user-generated videos and photos, as well as graphics or illustrations created by the user, including memes. Commentary or reactions are also eligible, provided they “add something meaningful.”
In the announcement for the program, the company emphasized a shift away from exploiting loopholes and clickbait. Simply reusing content from others or responding to posts won’t be a sustainable income source under the new framework. Allegra Jacchia, Senior Product Manager, Creators at SpaceXAI, stated that the program aims to “reward the creators who bring original ideas, expertise, creativity, and unique perspectives to ???? — not those who have become best at gaming the system.”
Participants in the current revenue-sharing model will continue to earn revenue until September 7th.
