Xbox Begins Testing Innovative Game Pass Feature to Tackle a Common Gaming Frustration
There’s nothing worse than firing up your console, ready to dive into a game, only to be greeted by that frustrating update notification. The situation feels even more annoying as updates seem to grow larger each year. However, Xbox is stepping up with a potential solution through Game Pass.
A new feature currently being tested with Xbox Insiders allows players to jump into a game via cloud streaming while it updates, provided they have a Game Pass subscription and the game supports this option. According to a recent announcement, players will see the option to launch with cloud gaming directly from the game card during installation or updates. This means less downtime and more time spent playing.
Console manufacturers have attempted various solutions in the past, like enabling automatic overnight updates while the console is in rest mode. We’ve also been promised the ability to start playing a game before it fully installs, but these features haven’t significantly alleviated the frustrations of modern gaming.
There’s a chance that the cloud gaming feature could face similar challenges, such as slow load times or poor streaming quality due to ongoing downloads. Nonetheless, it’s encouraging to see Xbox exploring innovative ways to enhance the console experience.
In addition to this, the latest update preview for Xbox Insiders expands the maximum Gamertag length to 15 characters, integrates Xbox 360 Achievements into Game Hub pages, and simplifies the process of adding games to your Wishlist directly from the Game Card, eliminating the need to navigate to the store. This is part of a broader initiative by Microsoft to accelerate improvements to the Xbox console experience.
