Xbox Introduces Its Own Version of the PlayStation Platinum Trophy Fans Have Been Requesting
Xbox has been a leader in achievement tracking for gamers, but the platform hasn’t seen many significant updates to its progress-tracking system since its inception. One feature that players have long desired is a unique achievement for completing all others in a game, akin to the Platinum Trophy found on PlayStation. New Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed that her team is actively working on this.
Sharma shared this news on social media, responding to a fan’s inquiry about a Platinum Trophy equivalent for Xbox achievements. She stated, “Team is working on something for later this year!”
Details on how this will function remain unclear. Currently, achievements contribute to a cumulative score across various games, and while completing all achievements in a game marks it as “completed,” there isn’t a designated final achievement added to your total. Gamer Score suggests an ongoing journey, whereas the Platinum Trophy signifies a definitive accomplishment. This distinction is one reason I lean towards the latter system.
The announcement surfaced during the latest wave of new features being tested for Xbox. These updates include the ability to capture group-chat audio in gameplay clips, improved methods for viewing and sorting achievement progress, the option to restore previous save data from the cloud directly on the console, and an expansion of game wishlists to accommodate up to 1,000 entries.
As usual, these features are being trialed by Xbox Insiders before a wider release. While none of these changes are groundbreaking on their own, the rapid succession of updates highlights the increased pace of platform enhancements since Sharma took the helm. Accelerating improvements to the console experience was one of her key objectives outlined in early communications to the team.
