Xbox Leader Acknowledges PlayStation’s Achievements and Discusses Halo’s Potential on PS5
One of the most unexpected developments of 2025 was Microsoft’s decision to expand its game offerings to PlayStation, its long-standing competitor in the console arena. These ports have not only been embraced by players but have also achieved impressive sales figures. Next year, fans can look forward to the arrival of Halo and Forza Horizon on PlayStation. In a recent interview, Matt Booty, Microsoft’s president of game content and studios, discussed the success of Xbox titles on the PS5 and the excitement surrounding the Halo announcement for the platform. “We had a bit of a moment earlier in the summer from end of April to end of June, where we had six of the top 10 games on PlayStation were our Xbox games,” Booty noted. “I see that as validation for the teams, but more importantly, it’s a chance for more players to engage with our content and explore our worlds.” Halo has always been regarded as a flagship title for Xbox, and the next installment, a campaign-only remake called Halo: Campaign Evolved, is set to launch simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 in 2026. Booty expressed satisfaction with the positive reception of the announcement and highlighted Microsoft’s commitment to reaching a broader audience. He also addressed various topics during the interview, including the company’s reversal on pricing new games at $80, hinting at a more flexible approach to video game monetization in the future. Additionally, Booty commented on the lukewarm response to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and the difficulties of releasing a new Call of Duty title annually. Activision has committed to avoiding consecutive entries in the same Call of Duty sub-series, such as Modern Warfare or Black Ops, and aims to provide “meaningful, not incremental” innovation moving forward.
