Xbox Unveils Its Version of the Platinum Trophy

After a recent leak, Xbox has officially unveiled Mythic Achievements, its response to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy. Players won’t have to wait long to dive into this new feature, as it becomes available today for those in the Xbox Insider program.

The launch was detailed in a post, where Xbox described Mythic Achievements as a way to “recognize some of the biggest accomplishments in your Xbox history.” Similar to Platinum Trophies, players will earn a Mythic once they complete all original achievements for a game. Additional achievements from DLC or updates won’t affect or revoke a game’s Mythic status.

A new Gaming tab has been added to player profiles, allowing you to view achievements and track your progress in one convenient location. This tab will help you monitor your Gamerscore and see your achievements at a glance. Mythic Achievements will feature a distinctive heroic frame to set them apart from regular achievements. To assist players on their journey to earning a Mythic, each game’s achievement list will now include a progress bar showing how close you are to completing all requirements.

This announcement follows a week of news regarding layoffs and studio closures, including the shutdown of Ninja Theory. Xbox remains a focal point for the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Currently, Xbox has not disclosed which games will feature Mythic Achievements in the initial rollout. However, the post indicates that players will automatically see Mythics appear on eligible titles, including those from the Xbox 360 era. Without clarity on the criteria for Mythic Achievements, it’s uncertain which games will qualify, but some educated guesses can be made.

PlayStation introduced Platinum Trophies back in 2008, meaning many titles from the PS3 era onward have them. For multi-platform games, Xbox might leverage PlayStation’s existing Platinum Trophy data to identify eligible Mythic Achievements, while Xbox exclusives would need to have Mythics developed from the ground up.
