Xbox’s long-anticipated achievement system similar to Platinum Trophies surfaces online.
It looks like Xbox is gearing up to introduce its own version of the Platinum Trophy with the upcoming Mythic Achievements. According to a recent report, players will unlock these achievements after completing all base achievements in a game, similar to how PlayStation handles its Platinum Trophies. Notably, any additional challenges from DLC or updates won’t impact this progress.
Gamers have already spotted the Mythic Achievements logo and sound cue in a recent update for the Xbox PC App. There’s also a new filter that allows players to track their Mythic progress, showing what they still need to accomplish. Unlike regular achievements, Mythic Achievements won’t contribute to Gamerscore, which tracks overall achievement points. Once a Mythic achievement is unlocked, the game art in the Gaming tab will display the Mythic logo with a green border. Plus, once the update rolls out, these achievements will be awarded retroactively.
The update is also set to revamp the Gaming tab on Xbox profiles, adding more stats like total Gamerscore, the number of achievements unlocked, and the count of earned Mythic Achievements. Reports suggest this update could launch soon, possibly before the month wraps up. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma hinted earlier this year that a Platinum Trophy equivalent was on the horizon, and the appearance of the Mythic Achievement filter on Xbox Insider accounts seems to confirm that.
The introduction of Mythic Achievements comes at a time when Microsoft could use some positive news, following a rough patch in the PR department. Just five months ago, the company announced layoffs affecting 1,600 employees, with another 1,600 cuts planned for the next fiscal year. On September 22, Xbox let go of an additional 268 employees. The company is also restructuring, with plans to consolidate teams, including bringing Halo under Activision and moving Obsidian under Bethesda. There are concerns about Ninja Theory’s future, as the studio has yet to secure a new backer after Microsoft divested from it, along with Double Fine, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, and possibly Arkane Studios. It’s been a challenging few months for Team Green.
