Xbox’s Rebranding Efforts Spark Online Reactions

It’s always been a dream of mine to dive into the major gaming news, and today, I’m here to share something monumental. Asha Sharma, the CEO of XBOX, has just dropped a bombshell on X: Xbox is now officially XBOX. It looks like she’s serious about digging deeper into what truly matters.

On May 13, Sharma ran a poll on X, asking a straightforward question: “Xbox or XBOX?” The results are in, and the XBOXs have triumphed, winning two-to-one over “Xbox.” Was this just a playful jab, reminiscent of a certain billionaire’s penchant for polling? It seems not, as Sharma has officially changed the Xbox account’s name and username to XBOX.

So, how is the internet reacting to this surprising rebranding? On X, there’s a mix of reactions, while Bluesky users are having a field day with the change.

*holding back tears*

I am not writing that in my headlines

This girl is making moves Xbox has needed for years. Even something as simple as bringing back the full uppercase XBOX makes the brand look fierce again. It’s bold, confident, and exactly how it should have always appeared.

What were Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond thinking?

Combine the new logo with the original font and ALL CAPS. Perfection ????

FYI, Asha Sharma updated her LinkedIn to confirm the rebrand to XBOX.

And my personal favorite, this post on Bluesky from Bobby Pashalidis: “How many articles are we gonna see about this?” At least one more, my friend.

I get why some might question the significance of this news. But I don’t dictate what’s newsworthy, especially when it comes to the BIG news. To those on Bluesky and X asking, “Why?” I’d point you to Aaron Greenburg, the long-time VP of marketing at XBOX.

Is this a big deal for anyone outside the social media console warriors? Kind of. Just think about the poor intern who had to change every Xbox social media account to XBOX this week. I can’t wait for the all-caps press releases we’ll see at next month’s Microsoft gaming showcase.
