YouTube Introduces Labels for AI-Created Music Tracks
YouTube is introducing a “Made with AI” label for tracks that have been “altered or fully generated” using artificial intelligence, similar to its current labeling system for AI-related videos. This label won’t cover every instance of AI in music creation, but it will apply to cases like “using a generative model to create the composition and vocals.” In its guidelines for music partners uploading songs, YouTube specifies how to disclose the use of generative AI, stating that if no disclosure is made, it may rely on “other signals” to determine if a song is AI-generated.
The label is rolling out today in the YouTube Music app, with plans to expand to the main YouTube app soon.
When you listen to a track on YouTube Music where AI has played a significant role, you’ll notice a label on the player page. Tapping this label will bring up a simple menu with additional information. YouTube is collaborating with music partners and utilizing its own detection tools to identify AI-generated tracks, applying the same labeling principles already in use across the platform. The aim is to provide viewers and listeners with clear and accurate information about the music they enjoy.
Earlier this year, Spotify introduced a voluntary AI label and stated it wouldn’t recommend songs from “AI personas.” Apple Music is also reportedly implementing an AI tag. Other music platforms are taking more stringent measures against AI-generated music; for instance, Deezer has added a filter to exclude AI tracks, while Bandcamp has outright banned AI music.
