Christopher Scroggins Joins Epic Games as Esports Coordinator
Christopher Scroggins has officially joined Epic Games, the powerhouse behind Fortnite and Rocket League, as their new esports coordinator. He shared the news on social media, marking the beginning of an exciting chapter.
In his announcement, Scroggins highlighted that his focus will be on Epic’s esports-related B2B strategy and fostering global partnerships with third-party organizations, collaborating closely with the existing team. “In this role, I’ll be focused on B2B strategy and supporting third-party relationships,” he stated. “I’m looking forward to learning from an incredible team and gaining a broader perspective on esports and gaming at a global scale.”
Before joining Epic, Scroggins founded the Esports Development and Growth Enterprise (EDGE) in late 2019, aimed at helping various organizations and educational institutions integrate esports into their operations. Recently, he stepped down as CEO, transitioning to a more advisory role while Co-Founder Zach Harrington took over daily operations.
Scroggins also brings a wealth of experience from his time as an esports instructor at Shenandoah University for over three years and as the academic director of esports and service assistant professor at West Virginia University for two and a half years.
Epic Games has been shifting its competitive gaming ecosystem to third-party operators, including the global tournament organizer BLAST. They are also collaborating with the Esports World Cup Foundation, positioning Fortnite and Rocket League as competitive titles in the Esports World Cup, a major event funded by the Saudi government that takes place in Riyadh during the summer. Scroggins’ background in collegiate esports and grassroots initiatives through EDGE is likely to enhance Epic’s understanding and engagement with these ecosystems in the U.S. moving forward.
