Orangutan, the winners of the inaugural BMSD in 2025, have been eliminated from BMSD 2026 after failing to qualify for the Grand Finals through the Last Chance stage, which wrapped up on October 13. The exit is one of the tournament’s biggest shocks. Orangutan had been among India’s most consistent BGMI squads this season, finishing on the podium at BGMS 2026 Season 5 with 187 points and travelling to Paris for PMWC 2026 earlier in the year.
How the Last Chance Stage Played Out
The Last Chance stage, held on October 12 and 13, brought together 16 teams that missed out on direct Grand Finals berths from the Semi Finals, with only four spots available. Myth Official, Welt Esports, Genesis Esports and Wyld Fangs secured those final four tickets. Genesis closed in dramatic style with a chicken dinner in the final match, lifting them to third place with 95 points. Wyld Fangs finished fourth and took the last remaining spot.
Orangutan had struggled across different stages of BMSD 2026 and eventually found themselves in the Last Chance bracket. They did manage a chicken dinner there, but they could not string together enough consistent placements to climb into the top four, and the title defence ended before the LAN began.
What Their Exit Means for BMIC and the Title Race
The elimination has a second consequence. Only the top six teams in the Grand Finals standings qualify for the BGMI International Cup (BMIC) 2026 in Mumbai, so Orangutan’s failure to reach the finals means they will miss the international event. They are also out of the race for the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2026 slot that goes to the BMSD winner.
It is a sharp contrast with 2025, when Orangutan won the first BGMI Showdown with 147 points while Team SouL finished third. A year later the two teams’ paths diverged in different directions: Orangutan went out in the survival rounds, while SouL, the BGIS 2026 winners, remained in contention for the title.
The finalists who survived the cut came from three routes: four teams from the Qualifiers, eight from the Semi Finals and four from Last Chance. They will play at Savaaya Convention in Hyderabad from October 16 to 18 in a 16-team Grand Finals, with six matches each day. The first two days use the regular points system, while the final day introduces the Smash Rule. Fans can watch on the KRAFTON India Esports YouTube channel, which is introducing regional-language casting for the finals, and KRAFTON has also allowed watch parties for a select group of creators.
Orangutan’s exit is a reminder of how deep the Indian BGMI scene has become. With a 48-team field and a promotion-and-relegation format, reputation offers little protection, and teams must stay consistent across many stages. For Orangutan, the focus will now shift to regrouping after a season that has shown both their strength and the thin margins of top-level BGMI.
