Esports Nations Cup Delayed Until 2027 Due to Regional Instability

The inaugural Esports Nations Cup has been postponed to 2027, as the Esports Foundation has decided to delay the tournament due to uncertainties in the broader regional situation in the Middle East.

Originally scheduled to take place in Riyadh in November 2026, organizers are using this additional time to provide all national teams, game developers, partners, fans, and other stakeholders with more clarity regarding the event.

The postponement was officially announced on August 18, 2026. The Esports Nations Cup aims to feature players representing their countries and territories across various esports titles, rather than their typical esports organizations.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, acknowledged that the decision to postpone was challenging but emphasized the importance of launching the ENC under optimal conditions. “The response from National Team Partners, publishers, players, and communities worldwide has demonstrated the immense potential of this competition,” Reichert stated. “We owe it to them to deliver an inaugural ENC that meets the standards this concept deserves.”

The event is now set for November 2027. The Esports Foundation highlighted that hosting a tournament with numerous national partners requires stable conditions and a clear path forward. While Saudi Arabia remains capable of hosting major events and continues to offer sporting and entertainment programming, the organization believes that waiting is the safer option for a global competition.

All existing commitments to the Esports Nations Cup Development Fund for National Team Partners will remain in effect, and related development programs will continue to progress toward the 2027 launch.

In the meantime, players and teams can utilize this extra time to finalize eligibility rules, scouting, coaching staff, local federations, and publisher agreements. However, this also means a longer wait for details on which games will be featured and how teams will qualify.

The Esports Foundation has not yet provided a specific date for the event in November 2027 or any updates regarding the qualification system. More information about the upcoming competition is expected to be released soon.
