India’s PMWC 2026 Grand Finals Campaign — A Historic Debut Ends in 13th and 15th Place

The PUBG Mobile World Cup 2026 Grand Finals have concluded, and while India’s two representatives — GodLike Esports and iQOO Orangutan — didn’t finish on the podium, the story of their campaign is one that Indian mobile esports fans should be genuinely proud of. The tournament ran from August 14 to 16 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles as part of the Esports World Cup 2026, with 16 teams competing across 18 matches for a $3 million prize pool. S2G Esports were crowned PMWC 2026 champions with 154 points, five ahead of NS RedForce in second and Aurora Gaming in third.

How India Got There — and What Happened in the Grand Finals

GodLike Esports and Orangutan made history by becoming the first Indian teams ever to qualify for a PMWC Grand Finals — qualifying directly out of their groups without needing to play through the Survival Stage. GodLike finished third in Group B with 105 points and the second-highest kill tally in their group. Orangutan placed second in Group A with 91 points, just 16 behind group winners 4Thrives of Pakistan. Both qualifying performances were exceptional by any measure.

The Grand Finals, however, told a tougher story. All teams started from zero, and India’s squads struggled to find the same consistency in the high-pressure three-day format. GodLike began Day 1 slowly, sitting 14th after four matches with just 13 points. Day 2 saw some improvement, and they carried 57 points into Day 3 in 12th place — still within reach of a strong finish if things broke right. Day 3 opened promisingly, with GodLike landing 15 eliminations in Rondo in the first match, but they couldn’t maintain that momentum across the remaining games.

Orangutan mirrored a similar trajectory — starting 15th after Day 1, climbing gradually, and finishing the tournament one place below GodLike.

The Standout Moments and What the Final Positions Don’t Show

The scoreline reads GodLike 13th with 84 points, Orangutan 15th with 76 points — but those numbers don’t capture the full picture. GodLike’s highlight of the entire tournament came in Match 17 when Spower pulled off a breathtaking 1v4 clutch that kept his team alive in a critical late-game situation. They also recorded a massive 20-elimination Chicken Dinner during the group stage, one of the most dominant single-match performances by any Indian team at an international event. Orangutan’s Wizzgod delivered a stunning 1v4 against FURIA, while AKOP completed a 1v3 clutch against ULF Esports on the final day — the kind of individual brilliance that scouts and selectors notice.

GodLike also played a direct role in deciding the championship — in Match 18, they defeated eventual champions S2G in a crucial fight that briefly forced the outcome to be decided by other teams’ results rather than a straightforward Smash Rule trigger for S2G. It is a small detail, but it shows that even at their lowest moment in the standings, GodLike were capable of beating the best team in the tournament.

The PMWC 2026 Grand Finals appearance is not a failure. It is a benchmark — the first time India stood on that stage — and one that GodLike, Orangutan, and the entire domestic BGMI ecosystem will build on heading into ENC 2026 in Riyadh and the BGMI International Cup later this year.
